Post-2000

There is a sense of arrival in Henry's later works, the feeling that his explorations as a painter have led him to a place of joy - joy in the seeing of a landscape, joy in the paint he uses to re-live that seeing, and joy in the sharing of that seeing with the viewer.
"Pigment is a metaphor for visual experience, rather than a simile...it should not be limited to description or imitation, but its qualities and character given free rein. The use of pigment can be seen as a way of giving, through the painting, a parallel existence, not a distant echo." [Letter to Becky, late 90s]
